The veterans program began using the technology, known as SCRAM (for Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor), in December of 2008 in order to help manage the epidemic rate of alcohol abuse and addiction among the combat veterans in their court. The system includes an ankle bracelet, worn 24/7, that actually samples an offender's perspiration every 30 minutes in order to measure for alcohol consumption and ensure compliance with court-ordered sobriety and treatment requirements.

The woman who used to sell fish no longer appears in the dark shadows outside my apartment door. "Hawker" is a formal English word for surveys and sociological studies. In the Indian languages we say machiwali, meaning the woman with the fish, or bhajiwala, the man with the vegetables. It joins the seller and the thing sold in a greater intimacy. Dhrupad is the most ancient form of Indian classical music, originating in Vedic chanting. I learn this form of singing from Bahauddin Dagar, the 2Oth generation of a family of great dhrupad musicians. In this week's lesson, we talk more about tradition than we sing, but we both continue to play our tanpwas, so that our conversation is surrounded by continuous resonance.

When I learn from Bahauddin, I submit myself to the tradition in a way that I don't anywhere else in my life, because I know, almost unconsciously, that there is no other way to learn dhrupad. It means not questioning anything till one reaches a very high level of competence, and never taking notes but listening deeply. I am always surprised at the ease with which I can do this. It is as if there are more ancient ways of learning that survive within me. When I tiffany necklaces on sale them, they come to life. The sequential is an idea that has little meaning here.

A typological study of polychrome glass bangles highlighted six decorative groups: (1) decorated with prunts (5 examples), (2) twisted (2), (3) marvered (1), (4) decorated with trails (3), (5) decorated with colored patches (4), (5) twisted (2), and (6) decorated with crumbs (1).

Most of these bangles have a deep translucent color. Those decorated with prunts often also have a surface coating of glass. A parallel can be cited from medieval Hama, Syria.22 Bangles with diagonal lines surrounding the main decoration of prunts have been found in medieval and late contexts at al-Tur, Sinai, and in late contexts at Shihr.23 No parallels have been found for the marvered example with a semicircular cross section. One trail-decorated translucent blue bangle with a triangular section was found in medieval and later levels at Tell Erani (Bilad al-Sham), and another was excavated in a late context at Hebron.24 The patch-decorated bangles have parallels from Hubras (Mamluk-Ottoman levels), the Damascus citadel (Ottoman period), Khalil (late Ottoman), and Upper Egypt (Mamluk period).25 A subtype with both marvered and patch decorations, of late Ottoman date, was found at Tell el-Hesi, Palestine.26 A blue fragment with a triangular section decorated with patches, mixed with a thick white central band, has a tiffany bangle close to those from Khirbat Minyeh, dating to medieval and later times.27

Twisted bangles with fragmentary orange inner twisted cables are well known from the medieval and later levels at Masyaf Castle, Beirut,28 and from collections of glass bangles bought in Vienna in 1873.29 This type was also found among the material excavated from al-Tur, Fustat, and Kawd am-Saila. T. Monod described this kind as "corps transparents et ornaments internes" (translucent body with inner ornament).30Monochrome tiffany jewellery

Four types have been identified among the 41 monochrome bangles: (1) smooth (22 examples), (2) spirally twisted (16), (3) with vertical ribbing (2), and (4) with horizontal ribbing (1). The types and colors are generally similar to those described for examples from Tell Abu Sarbut. The glass core is frequently of a translucent dark color, with a surface coating that is generally of the same color. Four of the smooth fragments are dated to the tiffany notes -Mamluk periods, and two to the Ottoman period. One twisted bangle is pale yellow-ocher, and it is dated to the Abbasid-Mamluk periods. Most of the other examples, from the same periods, are dark in color. Two examples are dated to the AyyubidOttoman periods and seven to the Ottoman-modern periods.

Dark glass bangles with a flat section and decorated with horizontal ribbing can be dated to the Ottoman period. The same type is also found in fifth- and sixth-century contexts in the Middle East. One example with diagonal ribbing was found at Masyaf Castle, Beirut (Ottoman), and another came from Nevasa, Pravara, in western India, but it has not been dated.DISCUSSION

These results will provoke intense debate among the global health measurement community. This much was clear during the peer review process. For example, although reviewers concluded that this study was "well designed...[and] well explained", "a very important contribution to our understanding of the epidemiology of maternal mortality", and "seeks to make a crucially important contribution to the global monitoring of maternal mortality", concerns about uncertainty estimates, in particular, were common. Understanding the varying approaches to measuring maternal mortality-their strengths, weaknesses, advantages, and disadvantages-must now be a priority for all those concerned with translating global health numbers and country estimates into policy.

There needs to be serious reflection among the global health community about how it responds to new data. Even before the paper by Hogan et al was submitted to us, we were invited to "delay" or "hold" publication. The justification for this concern was several fold: potential political damage to maternal advocacy campaigns; confusion among countries, policymakers, and the media, given the difference between this maternal mortality estimate and the tiffany pendants UN number; undermining progress on global commitments to maternal health; and the risk of an unproductive academic debate while women continued to die. Although well-intentioned, these requests to slow the pace of scientific discussion for political considerations are likely to be far more damaging than fostering a serious debate about progress in reducing maternal mortality as and when new data appear. Is the global health community unable to accommodate diverse voices and sources of evidence? Is it unable to create constructive ways to bring scientists and policymakers together to reach agreement about the meaning of new research findings?

Given the dramatic difference between the results of these estimates and those last reported by the UN, a process needs to be put in place urgently to discuss these figures, their implications, and the actions, global and in country, that should follow. MethodData Sources We analyzed longitudinal survey data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) to assess children's participation in unorganized physical activity. The NLSCY is a joint initiative between Human Resources and Social Development Canada and Statistics Canada. Households were selected from Canada's Labor Force Survey (a stratified multistage sample), which is representative of the Canadian population. Further details on the sampling procedure are available elsewhere (Statistics Canada and Human Resources Development Canada, 1995). NLSCY data collection was initiated in 1994 and repeated every 2 years thereafter; five cycles were available at the time of analysis (1994 through 2002). Response rates for each cycle were as follows:" Cycle 1 (86.3%), Cycle 2 (91.7%), Cycle 3 (89.6%), Cycle 4 (84.8%), and Cycle 5 (83.5%). Children ages 4-1 1 years in 1994 for whom longitudinal data on unorganized physical activity tiffany money clips available were followed to ages 12-17 years.

The Person Most Knowledgeable (PMK) of the child (in 90% of the cases, the child's biological mother) completed questions on both child and parental characteristics including family income, education, number of parents in the home, and urban/rural dwelling.
